12:00pm Whale Watch Sightings
Hello all,
Today we boarded the Sanctuary, eager to see what our second day on the water had in store! We were happy to find that the whales had remained on the Northwest corner and again we found ourselves in the company of humpback whales! We soon spotted some familiar flukes and confirmed we were in the company of two mother-calf pairs with a few individuals in the mix! Jabiru and her 2026 calf, Venom and her 2026 calf, and Pele remained in a tight group, diving in a cascade of beautiful tails over and over again. The calves made great strides on their own fluking dive mechanics, practicing lifting their tails several times over the course of the trip! We even got a few incredible looks at airborne calves as they launched themselves skyward without warning!
Our group was joined by another humpback named Crinkle, who casually moved in and out, perhaps browsing for food between surfacings. Our whale sightings were punctuated by several gray seal sightings and even a few Northern Gannets, who dove below the surface with calculated power!
The wind kicked up during our trip, but our hardy passengers were not deterred and enthusiastically joined us in the search for wildlife throughout our trip!
Overall, another outstanding day on the water! Until next time.
Your Naturalists,
Linnea, Brianna, and Andrew
