Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

This incredible waterfall is located on the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe. It takes up the full width of the river and is classified as the largest waterfall in the world based on its height of 108 m (354 ft) and combined width of 1,708 m (5,604 ft). The indigenous name of this waterfall is Mosi-oa-Tunya—”The Smoke That Thunders” so named after the waterfalls incredible spray. Typically rising over 400 m (1,300 ft) but at times being twice that high! The spray from Victoria Falls can be seen from up to 48 km (30 miles) away.

 

 

Sutherland Falls, New Zealand

Located near Milford Sound in New Zealand’s South Island, Sutherland Falls stands at 580 m (1,904 ft) tall. A unique feature of this beautiful waterfall is its 3 tiered cascade. The upper tier at 229 m (751 ft) tall, the middle is 248 m (813 ft), and the lower tier is 103 m (334 ft). This vertical fall is spread out over a horizontal distance of 480 m, making for a truly fascinating sight!

 

 

Yosemite Falls, USA

Dropping a total of 739 m (2,425 ft) Yosemite Falls stakes claim as the tallest waterfall in Yosemite National Park. Unlike many of the other major waterfalls of the world, this waterfall can run dry in later summer and early fall. This waterfall has a spooky secret, so beware. The local Ahwahneechee people believed that the plunge pool at the base of Yosemite Falls was inhabited by the spirits of several witches.

 

 

Niagara Falls, Canada
