Fun Things to Do for Adults in London, UK

London’s Borough Market

As far as fun activities for adults in London go, Borough Market has to be top of the list. Enjoy fresh oysters harvested that very morning, paella simmering in open air stalls and smelly cheese right off the shelf when you visit this wonderful market. Borough Market will appeal to anyone who likes delectable food in a sociable setting. It can get busy, crowded and loud (which is why it isn’t the best family activity) – but that’s all part of the fun. Haggle over strawberries whilst sipping on Prosecco, and sampling blue cheese. Prices range from a few quid for a quick snack or some fresh produce, to £10 or more for more elaborate ready-to-eat meals. This has to be one of the most fun activities in London for adults.

The Sky Garden

The Sky Garden is relatively new in the city, and is quite an unknown thing to do in London for adults. It is ideal for anyone who enjoys a gourmet meal with an atmospheric view. Situated 155 metres in the air, this cluster of bars and restaurants is particularly popular at sunrise and sunset – who wouldn’t want to see the first rays of sunshine light up the capital? A meal for two here will cost on average £80. Don’t have a big budget? You can also head up and enjoy the views for free, just make sure you book your tickets well in advance, and bring along I.D.

The Shard (and the Aqua Shard Bar)

the shardThis all day cocktail bar on level 31 of the world famous Shard offers breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea as well as a glorious selection of cocktails. Cocktails cost £16-22 each, wines range between £11 and £400 and a meal for two will cost on average between £40 and £100 depending on which menu you go for. The view is truly spectacular, and it’s certainly a venue that will impress friends or loved ones. If you’re after London activities for adults where you have to dress to impress, this ticks the box!

London’s Most Famous Store: Harrods

With its magnificent escalators and dazzling array of luxury goods, Harrods is a tourist attraction in its own right. If you love the top designers, this is the department store for you. You can spend hours here sampling makeup, trying on clothes, checking out the technology department, just make sure you still have time for eating in the awe-inspiring food court at the end. Prices here are famously expensive, but you could always purchase a souvenir chocolate bar for a couple of pounds.

The Book of Mormon Musical at London Theatre

Next on our list of fun things to do in London for adults, this cult-classic musical! If you want a musical that’s a little more quirky and grown-up, tickets for this rip roaring show start at around £25, and if you book in advance you’ll get better seats for your money. If you like your comedy irreverent, cheeky and a little controversial, then head down to the London Theatre today.

Hawksmoor Steakhouse

Known for being the best steakhouse in London, if you want to treat yourself and dine out in style – this is the place you should go. Reserving a table in advance is advised – but they do have bar seating for spontaneous bookings.

River Thames Cruise Through the City

londonA Thames river cruise will enable you to see loads of the key sights in London, all from the comfort of a boat. As you bob along the Thames, you’ll be able to enjoy commentary on key things to look out for, as well as refreshments too. One experience that is for adults is the  London Evening Cruise with Canapés & Music. This evening cruise with a bar-like atmosphere is ready to serve up canapés and cocktails, as you enjoy the live onboard entertainment, and the best views that London has to offer. This is the perfect experience to cap off a day of pub-hopping, or just to have a special evening out with friends or that special someone, with a relaxing cruise made for adults along the River Thames. You’ll even enjoy a welcome glass of Prosecco on arrival!

The Olympic Park

Would you like to swim in the same pool that Tom Daley trained in? It costs just over £4 to do so – all that is needed is for you to be able to swim 100m confidently in a recognised stroke. The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park itself is open all year round and it is free to visit, with plenty of sporty London activities for adults to partake of.

Watch a Show at the Shakespeare Inspired Globe Theatre

This recreation of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on the Southbank, is a truly iconic spot in the city – and certainly a historical one. The shows here are performed traditionally – which means no seating in the auditorium! Whilst this may not be great for kids, it’s definitely an experience in London to remember for adults!

Climb the Monument’s 311 steps

The Monument, Great Fire of London 1666, may not be London’s most famous landmark, but if you want to do something a bit different and a bit challenging, then this is definitely one for your list. It’s 311 steps to the top, and there you’ll be greeted by some wonderful, expansive views over the city. Worth the climb for sure!
