Winter Depression is real. Days are shorter, nights are longer, everyone seems to more tense than usual. But it doesn’t have to be all bad. There is a way to avoid these somber feelings?

It’s important to keep your life going as you would during the Spring and Summer months. What exactly does that mean? It means to keep a cozy and optimistic atmosphere. During the summertime, we spend more time in good company and social gatherings. We are naturally energized by the beaming sunlight. We treat ourselves more by eating good and going out more often.

Keep yourself hydrated, but also treat yourself to your morning cup of what keeps your body warm. It could be coffee, hot tea, or even hot cocoa. Exercise more and keep those endorphins up! Feel good and give back to the community. There are people that have to survive in harsh conditions during these brutal snowstorms, trust us, you’ll feel better.

The Danish use “Hygge” (pronounced as hue-guh) to get them through harsh Winter days. There is no real definition to this, as it is more of a concept/feeling. It’s about learning to find happiness and to appreciate the little things in life.

One thing that is Hygge is to keep those social gatherings going. Have people come over or plan a day out together. Don’t hibernate the whole winter, as your only affecting yourself. In the tri-state area we have plenty of group activities that can be done.

You can rent a cabin with a group of friends in the Poconos, or you can take a Hornblower NY cruise that lets you and your group wine and dine and appreciate the ravishing NYC skyline. Again, it’s all about appreciating the little things in life. Don’t just use these tips to make it through the winter blues, implement them into your daily lifestyle routine.

Cheers!
