Valentine’s Day is the international day for romance. For some, it’s a Hallmark holiday that sadly is seen as an obligation. Fortunately, for others, it’s an opportunity to show appreciation for the person they love.

Here at Hornblower New York, we did a little research and discovered that NYC is the second most romantic city in America on Valentine’s Day. The greatest city in the world should be #1. Hornblower’s here to help.

First, a few small tips to help you make the most of Valentine’s Day in NYC:

1. Know what your partner likes and hit that sweet spot.
It doesn’t have to be a grand romantic gesture, although that can’t hurt if that’s what will woo your significant other. The real key to an amazing Valentine’s Day is making your partner feel valued, and to listen. Getting something small that shows you listen is always a winner.

2. You don’t have to celebrate on Valentine’s Day
(although there are some great things we could recommend!)
Actual Valentine’s Day, February 14, is becoming infamous as the day to avoid going out for a meal. We have some great suggestions for what you can do on the weekend instead! Of course, combining dining with an experience, such as a Hornblower cruise, is a great alternative. Our dining cruises are always and it’s so much more than just a meal.

3. Many leave Valentine’s Day gifts until the last minute. Don’t feel bad.
We get it. You’re busy. It doesn’t mean you don’t care. Use these tips and you’ll be ok!

4. Make it last the whole day…
Or even the whole week. Start in the morning. Send messages or a gift during the day. Plan something special for the weekend. There’s no limit to how much attention you can shower someone you care about!

5. Put down the phone.
Give your partner your complete attention. It’s possible for many that this will be the hardest rule to follow. But being able to avoid all the distractions modern day life can bring is a big way to show you care… especially knowing how difficult it can be to disconnect.

With this in mind, it’s easy to show your significant other how much you care by providing them with an amazing Valentine’s Cruise aboard Hornblower. You can share the city you love with the one you love.
