It’s the eternal question for anyone planning a corporate event or party, what should the theme be?

A good theme can make or break an event so you want to make sure you get it right, but it’s not as hard as you think, and we’re here to lend a hand.

If you ask event planners, they’ll tell you that having a theme for your event significantly enhances the experience of those who attend, and that’s exactly what you want.

The fact you’ll be hosting your event aboard a Hornblower yacht, one of the most unique and impressive event spaces in New York, makes coming up with a theme even easier. There’s a wealth of ideas you can use that are nautically inspired, such as a “Love Boat” event. You can also end the day with a casino party. Whether you’re hosting a team event or fundraiser, there’ll be plenty of excitement and great memories around the casino tables.

Just because you’re on the water, doesn’t mean the theme has to be nautical, there’s literally no theme that can’t be executed aboard one of our vessels. A Great Gatsby theme will fit perfectly aboard our luxury yachts.

The 1920s aren’t your style? Why not try a ‘50s theme and have the rock’n’roll to go with it? In fact, there’s a whole world of music themes available. Disco is always fun and very New York; everyone will know what to wear and have a great time getting down to the DJ.

If you really want to take it up a notch, a carnival theme is a great idea. You can include games and challenges just like at a carnival, you’ll really get people engaged and having an awesome time, and it’s a winner for team building events.

If you’re trying to find some more subdued themes and ideas, you can’t go past black & white theme. It’s super easy for your guests, ensures everyone participates, and still adds an element of fun, but allows people to focus on the goals of your event.

If you’re looking for something even more simple yet still want to add that extra little something an event theme can add, get your guests to wear a funny hat. Award a prize for the most humorous/inventive. They’re easily put aside when you want the focus to be on your presentation, sales kick-off or other activities.

Got some ideas of your own? Just remember, when it comes to corporate event themes, you need to make sure it’s inclusive and is sensitive. Some party themes just aren’t appropriate. Some ideas sound great, but probably aren’t so great in reality.

People don’t remember days, they remember moments, and that’s just what you’ll create aboard Hornblower Cruises & Events with the right theme for your event.
