It’s an exciting time, you’re going to get married and, of course, you want the wedding to be absolutely perfect. It’s time to take the first steps toward wedding planning.
Hornblower recently hosted a wedding showcase to show just how amazing a wedding on the water can be aboard one of our luxury yachts. A Taste of New York came along to see what it was all about for their program Ultimate Waterfront Weddings.
So where to start? We’ve put together a brief wedding planning outline to help get you started.
Make a Wedding Checklist
At this stage, even with all the excitement, you might feel a little overwhelmed, especially by all the choices, so it’s important to be organized. This is the time you’ll want to make a wedding planning timeline and make sure you have a wedding checklist, to keep you on track. It might seem like a simple thing to do but being organized can save you a lot of trouble, stress, time and money.
Set Possible Dates
One of the first things you’ll want to do is set a date, but that might not be as easy as you think. First of all, you’ll want to think about the season in which you want to get married, and then look at what other events you do not want your wedding to clash with. So, set a time range. This will make it easy should a venue or something else important not be available on a specific date you want.
Set a Budget
Some suggest the budget to be the very first thing you do. There is some merit to that, but you don’t want to ruin the fun by starting out talking about money, and it’s not totally necessary. But you will need to figure out your budget before making big decisions such as venue, and even an invitation list. Once you’ve set a budget, you can decide, what’s realistic for the number of guests you’ll have.
Sketch out your dream wedding
What type of wedding do you want? Nighttime, daytime, modern, casual, classic or something else entirely? This will help you make the decisions that are to come such as venue, decorations etc. There are lots of places you can find inspiration, Pinterest is particularly good, you’ll even find Hornblower with some wedding ideas there!
Create a Guest List
You probably would have already given this some thought, but now you’ve got a budget in place, you’ll need to work out your guests and the best way to work within in your budget… or how to scale down your invitations.
Decide on a venue
Now you know what style of wedding you want, how many guests you’re inviting, you’ll have a better idea of the ideal venue for you. We know we’re biased but a wedding on a luxury yacht is a great idea! No matter what your theme or style of wedding, our flexible spaces can accommodate it all, and have. We won’t do the hard sell, but just picture your ceremony on the deck of a yacht on the Hudson, New York City as your backdrop. It’s pretty amazing.
Hire wedding photography and entertainment
Capturing your special moments with beautiful photos and video is of primary importance. The best photographers and wedding videographers are booked out well in advance so it’s crucial to book early. Make sure you get to see their work and will be happy with the way they capture your nuptials and present the finished product.
The same goes for entertainment, whether you want a DJ or a band. You should be able to check out what they’ll provide prior to booking.
At Hornblower, we’ve been there for dozens of couples on their special day to help create a truly magical wedding, from small, intimate vows to large, spectacular celebrations.
