Niagara’s most favourite time of the year is upon us when the city of Niagara Falls and the Niagara Parkway light up with magnificent and vivid colours for the Annual Winter Festival of Lights sponsored by the Ontario Power Generation. The premier event is a 4-week long festival offering colourful and fun-filled family festivities throughout the city of Niagara Falls, Canada. The festival kicks off on Saturday, November 15 and concludes on January 12, 2014.

The Opening Day for the festival may have kicked off on Saturday, November 15, at Queen Victoria Park, but some of the excitement was captured one week early leading up to the ceremonies when the WFOL ‘Misty Kids’ visited Hornblower Niagara Cruises on Sunday, November 9, 2014 for a fun-filled few hours at the Hornblower Landing. Cool Cat, Chilly Dog, Crystal Bunny and their friends Fury and Snowflake made a visit to take pictures with guests, ride the boats and even show off their dance moves with parents and kids. The day may have been chilly, but that didn’t stop boatloads of guests making their way to experience Niagara’s newest and biggest attraction. The Misty Kids and their entourage made a visit to Hornblower Niagara Cruises as way to kick off the excitement and exposure for the ever so popular festival.

The festival includes colourful freestanding light animations that focus on anything from Disney characters, to Historical figures in Canada to the winter wonderland display. This year guests will find worlds largest lit Canadian flag standing at three stories tall along with the Zimmerman Fountain display standing at two stories high and 40 feet wide. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles display will also be showcased featuring illuminated renditions of Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo and Donatello. Guests can view the beautiful sites from the Fallsview District, Niagara Parkway and across Niagara Falls.

There is no admission for the viewing of the lights, however $5-$10 donations are gratefully accepted and can be made at the Dufferin Islands exit point. Guests can stroll or drive 5km along the Niagara Parkway and view the illumination of the Falls and the lights throughout the gardens and walkways. Not only will guests find the Niagara Parkway lit with spectacular colours and illuminations, but they can also view homes that take part in the lighting of the festival across Niagara Falls. Addresses are listed on the festival website of homes that are creatively lit. The brightest homes are entered into a local lights contest across the city.

The festival also features Friday Night Lights where the Falls offers illumination and fireworks on the following days:

Nov 21 & Nov 28 at 10pm

Dec 5, 12, 19 at 9pm

Nightly Firework Shows: Dec 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26 at 9pm

January 2 & 9 at 9pm
