Offering Magical Rooftop Screenings of Classic Movies with Tasty Bites on San Diego Bay

San Diego, September 9, 2020 –  Hornblower Cruises and Events is introducing an open-air cinema and dining experience aboard its San Diego flagship vessel. A city-first, this new initiative is perfectly timed for movie lovers who want to switch off the small screen and upscale their film-watching under the stars. Serving up an array of blockbusters and cult classics alongside a delicious meal, the series kicks off – or casts off, rather – on September 17 with a showing of Groundhog Day.

“Conceived in response to current demand for original, socially distanced events, our big-screen experience is a must for San Diegans,” said Kevin Lorton, Hornblower’s Regional Vice President for Southern California. “Whether looking for date night inspiration, a fun family activity or a social get together with friends, this all-in-one package of great food, fantastic views and a movie bring together all the essential elements for a truly memorable experience on the water.”

Floating movie nights will take place on the top deck of Inspiration – the biggest yacht in Hornblower’s San Diego fleet. Rising 30 feet off the water, the vast Sky Deck is fully open-air and offers 360-degree views of the Bay and the twinkling lights of the city. At 8,000 sq. feet, there is more than enough room on board for everyone to stay safely apart while enjoying the movie.

Movies will be shown on an ultra-large screen with audio provided via external speakers or by tuning into the Hornblower App through guests’ devices using their own headphones. A special movie night menu features an array of delicious dishes such as Short Rib Pot Pie, Lobster Roll and Chicken Kabobs alongside a variety of appetizers and yummy desserts. All can be enjoyed with your favorite tipple from a range of wines, beers and cocktails on offer.

Screenings will take place twice weekly, Thursdays and Sundays, with the following lineup of popular classics:
