Nearly 62 years later, twins Norma Burke and Heather returned to Niagara Falls, Canada to visit the Lower Landing of Canada’s newest signature experience, Hornblower Niagara Cruises. Their journey brought them back to Niagara’s most talked about attraction after their grandfather, Geoffrey Hawthorn worked on the Maid of the Mist (the Canadian side) for nearly 13 years as the boat’s Captain. During their visit the ladies reminisced about how charismatic, loyal and humble Geoffrey was not just to them, but to the many who enjoyed the famous boat tour for years before. Geoffrey joined the Maid of the Mist after working in the marine industry his entire life by working on sail ships in the Caribbean’s, to the Lock system on the Canals. When asked what brought him to the Maid of the Mist after working for a number of years, his grand daughter said, “the people and the love for the marvellous Falls.”

Flash forward 62 years, the evolution of the iconic boat tour has evolved into Niagara’s newest experience, Hornblower Niagara Cruises. The San Francisco based company will officially launch it’s Canadian operation in Spring 2014 welcoming two 700-passenger state-of-the-art catamarans along with a 149-passenger Safety and Rescue boat that will to act as a private charter for evening cruises.
