Sustainability is a hot topic among event planners and conference organizers. Being able to minimize our footprint on the environment, and in turn produce memorable events is central to Hornblower’s larger business model. Successfully achieving this, however, is no easy feat. Every detail of an event, from registration, to set up, presentation and break down must be scrutinized to the highest degree in order to effectively reduce our events’ impact on the natural wold around us.

As we head into 2015, the International Society for Sustainability Practitioners has identified a number of key events happening in the United States that serve as prime examples of sustainable events, and offer event sustainability practices training. Here are four such events:

March 25-27, 2015, DoubleTree Hotel, Bedford, MA

Hosted by the Society for Organizational Leadership, this intensive three-day program will deepen your capacity to lead effectively. Based on the leadership development process described in The Fifth Discipline, by Peter Senge, identified as a seminal management book by Harvard Business Review, participants in Foundations for Leadership will explore what it takes to create an environment where leadership is a shared responsibility, naturally embedded in the fabric of an organization and community.

June 2-4, 2015 Ashland, MA

Join Peter Senge and Darcy Winslow for the Society for Organizational Learning North America’s (SoL NA) interactive, three-day Leading Sustainable Transformation workshop and learn with a diverse group of peers how to make sustainability a core value in your organization, supply chain or community. The program is designed for organizational leaders at all levels, from all sectors: corporate, non-profit, government agencies and education. The sessions will help build personal and joint capacity and provide tools to collaboratively address complex problems of systemic change. Leading Sustainable Transformation will be both personal and collective: participants learn how to work better together to achieve common goals that otherwise might not be possible.

August 18-21, 2015, Stowe, VT

The Executive Champions’ Workshop (ECW) is a special setting for nurturing new thinking and relationships among executive leaders in today’s rapidly changing economic and social landscape.

The ECW has thrived over the years because of a growing desire amongst senior leaders from diverse organizations around the world to engage in deeper dialogue with peers who share their aspirations and face similar challenges. With its distinguished participants, this program has consistently created a distinctive space for deep reflection and conversation around questions that matter.

November 3-5, 2015, Colorado Springs, CO

The SRI acronym (Sustainable, Responsible, Impact) reflects the common threads that weave the motivations of many socially conscious investors together:

Putting investment capital to work toward creating a truly sustainable future;
Owning shares of the most responsible companies;
While making money and having a positive impact—all at the same time.
The SRI Conference on Sustainable, Responsible, Impact Investing (formerly SRI in the Rockies) is the premier annual gathering of investors and investment professionals investing for positive impact—for a truly sustainable future.
