For the past 20 years, 21 Xenon halogen bulbs have done a great job of projecting colourful lights onto the American, Bridal Veil and Canadian Horseshoe Falls. However, there have always been limitations to this lighting, including dark gaps and limited colour options.
The new lighting installation the Illumination Board will launch Thursday, December 1, 2016, is set to change the way we see the Falls forever! An investment of $4 million has been put towards a full revamp of the previous lighting system. Replacing the old halogen technology with the latest in high efficiency LED technology, decreasing energy use by approximately 59%.

ナイアガラの滝の照明の歴史

  • ナイアガラの滝が初めて夜間ライトアップされたのは1860年のことでした。 皇太子がこの地を訪れた際、アメリカ滝の周辺、峡谷のカナダ側の道路、ホースシューフォールズの背後に200個の色と白のライトが設置されました。このライトはベンガルライトと呼ばれるカルシウム魚雷のライトで、海上の船に助けを求める信号を送るために使われていた。
  • 1879年に最初の電子照明が行われた。
  • 1925年は、ナイアガラの滝照明委員会が形成され、最初の恒久的な照明のインストールに資金を調達したときだった。
